
Although she ultimately ended up putting her work on pause in favor of a paddleboarding excursion – and perhaps some Curb Your Enthusiasm reruns and a nice whitefish and caper cream cheese-filled bagel – the artist picked back up where she left off after returning from her trip and reuniting with Jack Antonoff, the powerhouse pop producer behind “Solar Power” and some of Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey’s latest albums. “We had all the windows open, it was summer, we just followed it through,” she explained.
Despite finishing the song with Antonoff, the singer maintains her time on Martha’s Vineyard – likely at Larry David’s vacation home – played a significant role in shaping the track. “It really was such a natural, joyful extension of an awesome day,” she said.
However, it seems the vacation home wasn’t the only influence that inspired the song, which perfectly straddles the line between certified banger and Activia commercial soundtrack. In the interview, the artist also cited screaming cicadas, whose calls are sampled in the final product, and “Loaded” by Primal Scream as some of the piece’s biggest influences.
So folks, here’s to hoping that Larry David returns the favor, allowing the singer to inspire his latest work – Lorde Your Enthusiasm sounds amazing.
