Despite this seemingly heartfelt defense, fact-checkers would still more-than likely take significant issue with her speech. According to PolitiFact, 0% of the former Press Secretary’s seven fact-checked claims were entirely true, while 28% of her statements were either “mostly true” or straight-up “false.” Furthermore, she even received the highly-coveted pants-on-fire ranking for her aforementioned comment about former President Trump downplaying the dangers of Covid-19.
Fact Checkers aside, McEnany’s fibbing habit even famously landed her a ban from Jake Tapper’s CNN program. “There are some people that are so mendacious, I just wouldn’t put them on air,” the anchor told Brian Stelter during his show, Reliable Sources last December. “Kayleigh McEnany, I never booked her. Jason Miller from the Trump campaign, I would never book him. These are just people who tell lies the way that most people breathe. There was no value in that,” he continued, adding that the former press secretary “couldn’t acknowledge reality.”
Considering her hot take earlier this week, it seems some things never change.
