Chicken Sandwich Wars: Burger King Trolls Chick-Fil-A With Pride Month Chicken Sandwich Donation

For those of you not in tune with the never-ending world of fast food drama, several years ago, Chick-Fil-A found itself under fire for regularly donating to anti-LGBTQAI+ groups until 2012, and its CEO’s sentiments surrounding same-sex marriage. “We’re inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,” the exec said while appearing on a radio show back in 2012. “And I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude that thinks we have the audacity to redefine what marriage is all about.” Yikes.

As for Burger King, after first announcing their entry into the highly contentious and apparently taco-filled chicken sandwich wars earlier this year, the chain’s campaign comes at a very coincidental time, coinciding with the company’s push to make itself a legitimate contender among competitors like Popeyes, Wendy’s, and the aforementioned Chick-Fil-A, providing a free Whopper for anyone who ordered a Ch’King on the company’s website between June 3 and 20.

“This is a community we love dearly and have proudly supported over the years, so we couldn’t miss an opportunity to take action and help shine a light on the important conversation happening,” a spokesperson for the fast-food chain said of their pride month initiative to USA Today over email.
