‘Powerpuff Girls’ Reboot To Be Overhauled After Mind-Bogglingly Bad Script Allegedly Leaks on Twitter

It’s a dark day for 90’s kids everywhere. The highly-anticipated live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot featuring Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as resentful 20-somethings has officially been scrapped for the CW‘s Fall 2021-2022 slate, set to be entirely overhauled following the leak of what some are claiming to be the show’s mind-bogglingly terrible script on social media.

“The reason we do pilots is sometimes things miss, this was just a miss,” Mark Pedowitz, the network’s CEO and chairman said during a press call on Tuesday, per Vanity Fair. Although the exec explained that the company still “completely” believes in Powerpuff‘s cast, which featured Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Chloe Bennett as Blossom, Disney Channel star, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Broadway actress Yana Perrault as Buttercup, as well as writers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, it seems the series in its original form simply wasn’t up to snuff. “In this case, the pilot didn’t work,” Pedowitz explained, noting that the show’s writers and cast are still on board to try again at bringing the highly-awaited series to the small screen. “Because we see enough elements in there, we wanted to give it another shot,” he continued. “It may have felt a little too campy and not rooted in reality. You learn things when you test things out. We felt, ‘Let’s take a step back and go back to the drawing board.’ This is a powerful property, it engaged a lot of interest, and we want to get it right.”

Now, reader, I know what you’re probably wondering – with its big-name stars (well, at least big-name to us zoomers), Junos scriptwriter, and the nostalgia factor in spades, how could the CW‘s attempt at bringing the show to life be so offbase? Well folks, it seems the answer to this question may lie in what some are claiming to be absolutely childhood-destroying leaked passages from Powerpuff’s script.

Threats of leaking nudes. alleged Harambe jokes. Using the word “triggering” outside of its proper context. The girls walking in on their sister during round six with some woman she met at a bar the night before. The line “life, is one big hate boner.” If these snippets are real, “campy” doesn’t even begin to describe just how terrible Powerpuff’s original script actually was. It’s bad, folks. It’s really bad.
